Fleeting Stories

Portraits-2018-1-67.jpg

Every railway station has a unique rhythm of its own, tuned to the arrival and departure of trains. Every time a train arrives, there is a sudden flurry of activity vendors getting on and off with their goods, passengers trying to board the train, coolies trying to find customers. For busy stations and "junctions", this could happen every 10-15 minutes.

But there are also trains that just pass through. Trains that create a momentary connection and generate a rhythm of their own.

This series captures a moment during the passing of trains at the station. The trains came and went, what remained with me were these fleeting stories. The gaze of someone looking out of the window, the ghostlike form of someone walking, a frozen gesture of someone waving. What remained with me were their sense of anticipation and incompleteness. Some were simply reflections of what was happening at the station.
